I was going through random stats on cricinfo so thought it's worth sharing the list I compiled.

I set the cut off of minimum 100 wickets. Only exception is Alan Davidson who got 90+ wickets in both 1950's and 1960's but his bowling average of 20 was too good to be ignored in a decade where only one bowler with over 100 wickets had sub 25 average i.e. Trueman

Preference was given to bowling average apart from the following exceptions where the difference in average was negligible compared to the number of wickets taken:

2010's: Steyn and Anderson ahead of Rabada and Philander
1960's: Graham McKenzie ahead of Peter Pollock

In fact the SR of both Akhtar & Waqar is one of the best of all times.

Another interesting fact is Imran outperforming all West Indians, Lillee, Hadlee in 80's in addition to averaging 44+ with the bat in that decade. 3rd best Pakistani batsman in the list only behind Miandad and Zaheer.

Waqar did not take 375 wickets in 56 test matches in 90s. In fact he has a total of 373 wickets from a test career ranging from 1989 to 2002, totaling 87 tests. He took 273 wickets in the 90s. Average is spot on.

amazing work @maddgenius I would include Waqar in 2000s as well but he retired in the 1st half, he could have gone on more. Unfortunately didn't happen
