India and Pakistan cricket match has always been an intense battle. However, cricketers from both nations are known for sharing good friendships with each other. Indian cricketers paid a fitting tribute to former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi.

India’s supporting hand to Afridi didn’t surprise anyone as both countries’ players often do this for each other. Team India skipper Virat Kohli’s shirt, signed by other Indian players, was sent to Afridi as a retirement gift. Afridi announced his retirement from all formats of the international cricket in February this year.

Kohli’s shirt conveyed a message. It says, “To Shahid Bhai, best wishes, always a pleasure playing against you.” Also read: BCCI wants ‘Big Three’ model till June

The image of the shirt was recently posted on Twitter by a Pakistani journalist. The shirt was signed by Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah, Suresh Raina, Pawan Negi, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin, Hardik Pandya, and former coach Ravi Shastri is identifiable on the image of the shirt.

The former Pakistan all-rounder was recently named as one of eight Champion Ambassadors for the Champions Trophy to be held in the United Kingdom from June 1 to 18, along with India’s Harbhajan Singh. The other six being Habibul Bashar, Ian Bell, Shane Bond, Mike Hussey, Kumar Sangakkara and Graeme Smith.

The Kohli shirt is not the only one on Afridi’s walls. He has an entire space dedicated to sports memorabilia, including shirts by legendary players such as Shane Warne, Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers.

Another shirt, proudly preserved in its own case, carries the signatures of Pakistan cricket legends.

Signed bats by ‘Swing ka Sultan’ Wasim Akram and legendary batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq are also part of the collection.
