Younis revealed that the pacer’s performances during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) had caught his interest and praised the level of pace Rauf is able to generate.

“I watched him at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and was impressed by him. He possesses pace, he’s a smart bowler who is aggressive which I really like about him and I’m really glad that he has done well at the Big Bash League. I’ve spoken to Misbahul Haq about him and we are thinking about bringing him into our pack of pace-bowlers, working with him and hopefully we can push him into the Pakistan team soon,” Younis said.

The 48-year-old claimed that the presence of Twenty20 (T20) leagues around the world was a major challenge as the players had to shift focus continuously from international cricket.

“My concern and issue is that because there are three formats nowadays and there are a lot of T20 Leagues around the world, it’s very difficult even for the youngest cricketers to focus just on one format and just focus on international cricket,” he said. “It’s really difficult to deprive cricketers from earning a good living from T20 Leagues as that’s what they are entitled to do and that is their bread and butter.”

Younis however was excited about the young pace bowlers in Pakistan and claimed that he had discussed the possibility of financial assistance for players who focused on international cricket with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“It’s a very exciting time when I look at the fast-bowling talent currently available, but I have spoken to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about looking after the financial side of things for the players, so that they can focus on and prioritise playing for Pakistan rather than various league around the world,” he said.

The former right-arm pacer also believes that all-rounder Faheem Ashraf had the ability to help Pakistan in the Test side in the same vain as England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes.

“We wanted to have him around for the recent Sri Lanka Test series, but he was injured. We would love to have the luxury of an all-rounder in the Test team who can give us that fourth bowling option, especially when you have a young pace-bowling attack. Look at England with Ben Stokes who is batting at number 5 or 6 and is a complete bowling option. It’s very handy to have someone like Stokes in your Test team with both bat and ball and we are searching for that option,” he concluded.

Shame on you Waqar for not being able to identify the potential in Harris before he went to Australia.
Instead you picked Muhammad Irfan. LOL !!

And now, you are hopelessly trying to take credit by stating that you will be the one who brought Harris to Pak team.
    Freaking IDIOT!

Irfan to theek hai odis t20s mein, Imran Khan sr ki jaga tests mein Harris Rauf ko easily select kar sakte hein cus Imran Khan sr possesses nothing except good line and length and a bit of reverse!! There is nothing special about IK sr! He just bowls in an area and is useful on Asian UAE Pakistan type pitches whereas Harris Rauf has extra pace and muscles about him!! Harris Rauf is a very Australian type bowler, strongly built!!

T20 mein to usko phainta par jayega demoralize ho jayega! Test cricket khilao! Test mein Naseem ko chance diya Australia mein usko maar pari but dekho end result kitna acha nikla! Tests mein hi aap young talent ko groom kar sakte ho properly cus aapke jo experienced pacers hein chahe Amir ho Wahab ho Irfan ho ya Hassan Ali sab limited overs cricket ko ziada importance de rahe hein is waqt is liye aapko chahye ziada se ziada young talent ko test cricket mein chance dein jis tarah Shaheen Naseem Shinwari groom hue hein usi tarah Harris Rauf bhi acha groom hoga agar test cricket usne kheli to!!

Test cricket koi mazaak nai hai. Har kisi ko lao , har kisi ko khilao, yaheen say sikhao. Musa is a clear example of a bowler not ready for test cricket. Only first class cricket can prep you for test cricket, minimum 2 seasons for any bowler, oil your engine enough to be able to bowl 20-25 overs a day. Naseem is an exception because his quality is a cut above, har koi exception nai hota. You have to be at a certain level of control before being considered for test cricket, yahan tou aik bowler 3 consecutive balls aik area main nahin karsakta..kaash Abbas kay paas thori aur pace hoti, dunya ko hila dayta

Unfortunately our selectors/coaches/captains are clueless in identifying Naseems out of the cohort so we just have to throw youngsters in the pool and let them float. Naseem wouldn't even have been in the squad, let alone playing, if Amir or Wahab had still been available. And even after doing great in the first test in Australia, he was dropped in favor of Musa for the second. Therefore, unfortunately, in theory it sounds great to pick and choose the best out of the lot but Misbah/Waqar and the captains just aren't good enough to do so. It is not surprising that we wonder why Abid is only now getting a chance or why Rauf is suddenly being considered after BBL pulled him out of some other local league even though he did well in PSL.

Naseem did not get chance in 2nd test against Australia for multiple reasons.
    1. It was his first series that too against Australia and we did not want to risk him an injury or smacking from Aussies!
    2. We wanted to try out Musa too to see how good he was!
    3. We had lost that test!
    4. And there were other many reasons why we did not select Naseem including the loss of mother being away from home etc etc!! He must be feeling terrible in Australia at that time and ground was not the right place to cry cus there he had to concentrate on his performance as well! He is just 16 - too much pain for young boy to bear!!

Even if he gets picked, he might warm the bench as Misbah never wants to make too many changes

Even picked Musa ahead of him based on hunch

you might be right, but it’s not because Missvah never wants to make changes - that’s just not true - it couldn’t be better proved than by his last squads where they were so different from previous ones and where he did bring new players into the team.

if it doesn’t happen it’s because his judgement is crap, not because he doesn’t accept change.

but there’s a difference between a guy that has a total of a couple of months and two assignments under his a belt and a guy that’s been at the helm developing and watching available talent for three years. One you can argue is finding his feet, the other just proves he does have horrendous judgement.

certainly Mickey is far far more culpable than misbah at this point.

maybe. whatever it is, I think this is another very stark indication of how when even so called experts try to pick talent by eye rather than numbers, its a very haphazard, often failed process.
