Rumours going around on social media that he could retire after the 3rd test vs WI.

I think he should stick around for the Bangladesh & SL series; he is a beast in Asia.

would be the end of a magnificent chapter. He is in his 40s now so understandable if he's thinking of retiring.

Who's his replacement ? Haris looks awfully out of touch as of now. I think he still needs some more time in domestic before he can make a comeback

Lol lost interest in ODI and T20. If he retires I have no legitimate reason to watch tests either but will hope that Azhar, Asad, Shahzad,Sarfaraz Shan continue to do well. Also Haris if he gets chance, but dont rate the other selfish youngsters that play for their own stats

Great, Misbah and Younus going, woop di flipping do.

Those desperate for them both to retire will want them back after a while when they see our batting posting 200odd regularly.

Doubt it, few months ago he said he had another 2-3 years in him

Same was said about Misbah after he retired from ODIs, but our batting has improved after his departure. Yes his absence isn't the main factor, but it shows that the notion that the wheels will come off due to the absence of one or two individuals is not true. Pakistan will always have enough batsmen to score enough runs in the UAE and Asia with our without Younis and Misbah, and it will also have enough to batsman who can fail as many times as Younis did outside Asia last year, failing 82% of the time (14 innings out of 17).

Misbah and Younis fans who think that the team would stop posting big totals and will be in a free fall in their absence are in for big disappointment. The team will not be any better or worse after their retirement. It is a mid-table, mediocre team with or without them. It will score runs on flat wickets, fail on green pitches or when the ball swings, and the spinners will bowl them to victories in the UAE.

Lol some of the appointed worldclass bats struggle against top quality spin. There is a reason two of the highest wicker takers are leg spinners but screw logic

So who are the replacements for YK & Misbah ? I guess Salahuddin will come in for one of them.

Will Younis' ego allow him to share a retirement stage with Misbah?

    Nobody

There is no replacement for Saeed Anwar who retired 15yrs ago. We have to move on at some stage.

Keep Younis for another year. Love watching him bat in UAE. Feel sad every time a legend retires so I'm all for YK for another few series.
He's a star player and reason why some watch/follow tests is because of him.
I'm sure Pakistan cricket team will do well without him too however I hope they don't go into free fall like SL did when Sanga and Jaya left

Yeah he should go as it will give new players a chance in relatively easier series. No long term value to him making runs in BD.

You talked about the swinging ball because apparently his dominance against spin is useless. Said it before will say it again. Players like AB and Sangakarra would not openly claim to have perfected their shots against spin based on his technique.

Ideally Misbah should have retired after Australian and Younis after West Indies. Losing both immediately will leave a hole. But SL & Ban matches will be a good chance to find new people.

How about Asad & Sarfaraz move up to 5 & 6 and we play an all rounder at 7. If we can find a really good batting all rounder it would be the ideal combination.

Going to struggle if you don't have a replacement. The same reason we struggled with openers once Anwar retired.

Wouldn't mind if he sticks around a little longer. Younger players can learn a lot from him.

I didn't say that his dominance against spin is useless, but my point is that Pakistan will not stop winning matches in the UAE/Asia in his absence. As far as the ability to play spin is concerned, he is top notch.

Yes it's official he had announced that WI series will be his last. His decision in the end I guess. Pakistan test team will miss him dearly.

Legend goes... all the best to Khan of Mardan!

Had to happen one day so doesn't make much difference if he decides to hang his boots now or later. We were never going to be ready to replace him in any case.

Others will have to step up now.

He'll bow out with 10k test runs. Remarkable career and a great hard working guy. Enjoyed his cricket with a smile. Not to mention a safe pair of hands in the slips.

T20 WC winning captain in 2009, the sprinkle of glitter on a wonderful 17 years service to Pakistan cricket.
